Sunshine and Community 2021 Golf Tournament

Sunshine and Community

On August 28th, 2021, golfers clamored into their carts and took to the gorgeous green landscape of Century Pines to challenge their skills and their teammates for our annual Streetlight Golf Tournament. When teams registered, they were directed to a golf cart equipped with a ‘swag bag’ with a nice assortment of goodies. A special thanks to Scholtens for providing us with candy bags, and Kitching, Steepe & Ludwig Funeral Home for providing the sleeve of golf balls for every swag bag! By the time teams reached the 9th hole, the smell of lunch lured golfers back to the clubhouse for a meal and refreshments.

The tournament was booked full for the morning with just over 100 golfers.  The course itself offered many challenges but that didn’t stop us from adding to the competition! We added the longest drive, closest to the pin, and a putting competition, an excellent exercise in hand eye coordination and can be extremely competitive, depending on the prize at stake! The winner of the putter challenge was awarded with an exquisite, specially crafted putter made with cocobolo wood donated by Exotic Woods.

Congratulations to our top team, Ontario Stone Supply and the winner of the putting competition, Bradley Mans.

Fundraising is a big deal for Streetlight, this one is done with the specific goal of raising funds for our youth programs. This year we had 30 sponsors for the tournament and raised $17, 600!

From day to day running of our programs, bibles and teaching materials, to updating sports equipment, collected funds are used by staff to acquire teaching resources allowing them to reach families in the Beasley and surrounding neighborhoods. With school underway, our programs are up and running with safety protocols in place and space to welcome youth to a new season of learning about hope we have in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Thanks to our sponsors, and all who participated in this fundraiser we can continue to fulfill our calling at Streetlight Christian Church!
